What passive insulation can and cannot do
A thermal container liner slows heat transfer between the container and the cargo space. It does not actively heat or cool cargo, hold a temperature setpoint or guarantee a particular temperature throughout a voyage. Its suitability must be assessed for each product and route.
Five questions before selecting a liner
1. What are the cargo's documented temperature limits?
Use the manufacturer's transport specification rather than a generic range for the product category. Pharmaceutical products require appropriate shipper qualification.
2. What is the loading temperature?
Passive insulation moderates temperature change; it does not correct cargo loaded outside its permitted range.
3. What conditions may occur along the route?
Consider season, solar exposure, transhipment, terminal dwell, onward transport and realistic delays. A destination alone does not describe the whole journey.
4. What moisture risks exist?
Review cargo, pallets and packaging for moisture and inspect the container for leaks or damage. Insulation may help manage some condensation conditions but cannot remove existing moisture or guarantee prevention.
5. How will the liner be fitted?
Confirm container size, selected liner configuration, loading location and the person responsible for fitting. BubblePack's prefabricated Integrated Liner typically takes 7–20 minutes to fit, depending on container size, with installation by shippers or partners where arranged.
When active refrigeration is the right choice
If the product requires a controlled temperature setpoint, appropriately powered refrigerated equipment may be necessary. A reefer can provide active temperature control using suitable electrical power, including generator sets where fitted.
Using shipment data
Temperature loggers can document conditions on an actual shipment and support a lane-specific assessment. Measurements from one journey do not guarantee performance on another.
